Joe Drives a Car

Joe was a big boy now. He wanted to drive his father's car. The car was a new Corvette with a red top. All of Joe's friends wanted to ride in the car, and Joe wanted to take his friends for a ride.

Joe asked his father, "Will you take my friends and me for a ride in the new Corvette?"

"Yes," said his father, "Get your friends, and we will go for a ride around the farm."

The boys and Joe's father took a ride around the farm in the new Corvette. Joe's father was a good driver. He stopped for dogs and cats. He stopped for the little girls playing in the road väg. What fun for the boys! They drove up and down the road, up and down the hill, and around the forest. Then they drove home.

"That was fun," said Joe.

His friends said, "We would like to ride with you again Joe, when you can." And they went home.

Joe asked his father. "When will I get to drive the car?"

His father said, "Watch me when I drive the car. Then do what I do. Then you can drive with your friends."

"What fun," said Joe, "to drive the car with my friends in the new Corvette. The girls will look, and the dirt will fly!"

Joe's father laughed. "Do not drive too fast. You can get the girls to look, but do not drive so fast to make the dirt fly."

When Joe's father drove the car, Joe watched. He saw how his father stopped the car, how his father stayed in the road, and how his father drove fast. He watched and watched how his father drove the car.

Then one day Joe's father said, "You can drive the car now. I will let you drive around the farm."

Joe was so happy. He loved the Corvette. He did not drive fast to begin. Then he went faster. He ran faster than a horse on the farm. He drove the car faster and faster; then he saw the dirt fly.

His father said, "Do not drive too fast. You will make the dirt fly. I want the car to look good. I do not want dirt on the car."

Then Joe hit a big rock. The car flew up, up, up. It was not funny to Joe's father. He said, "I asked you not to drive too fast. Drive to the girls’ house."

Joe drove the new Corvette by the house where the girls stayed. When the girls saw Joe driving the new Corvette they ran to the road.

One of the girls said, "I love that Corvette." Then the big girl said, "I love that boy driving the Corvette."

Joe's father laughed and laughed. Joe liked what the girls said too.

Joe's father said, "You can get the girls to look, but do not make the Corvette throw dirt by going too fast."

"Yes," said Joe, "It is more fun to get the girls to look than to throw dirt."

They laughed. The girls laughed too.
