208 Quality Newspapers

       • The Guardian & The Independent are quality newspapers in the UK.
       • Dagens Nyheter (literally, "The News of the Day") and Svenska Dagbladet ("Swedish Daily News") are quality Stockholm-based national newspapers.
       • Quality newspapers have long articles. People subscribe (the newspaper is delivered home).
       • Most newspapers also publish editorials & other opinion articles.
       • Editorials are written by the newspaper's Editor (Editor in Chief, Head Editor) etc. Opinions about various issues are expressed. The newspaper's point of view is presented.
       • News should be presented in an objective manner. But on the editorial page it is the other way around.
​       • No matter how they try, journalists do not succeed in presenting news completely objectively.
       • In Sweden, most editorial pages support Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt. In any event more than they support the opposition Social Democrats.
       • However, it is the other way around for most journalists whom the newspapers employ.
​       • Articles in the Swedish newspaper DN (Dagens Nyheter), especially editorials and other opinion articles, influence what many Swedes think, that is to say Swedish public opinion.
       • Some newspapers are read and quoted around the world: The New York Times, The Guardian (UK), Le Monde (France), El País (Spain), Pravda (Russia), Spiegel (weekly news magazine, Germany), Al-Ahram (Egypt), Globo (Brazil), The Times of India med flera.

209 Tabloids
       • The Swedish tabloids Aftonbladet and Expressen do not have subscribers. Instead they sell copies in supermarkets, etc. To increase sales, they capture readers' interest with exciting headlines and pictures. They use (and reuse) sensational headlines like "New miracal method...".
       • Free newspapers like the Swedish edition of Metro och the Stockholm free newspaper Mitt i are a mix of quality and tabloid.

209 The Big Ones
       • The tabloid aftonbladet.se — which is close to the Social Democrats — is Sweden's most read newspaper.
       • The tabloid Expressen and Sweden's largest quality newspapers (DNSvD, Göteborgs-Posten in Gothenburg, etc) are closer to Prime Minister Reinfeldt's views. Their political colour is blue.
