         • What people in general think, what their opinions are, is called public opinion
         • If you want to influence politicians and public opinion, it can be a good idea to contact a newspaper, a radio station, and a TV channel. When media highlight an issue, politicians usually listen.
         • Sometimes people are asked for their opinion, to find out what public opinion is.
         • Do such opinion polls show what the pupil really thinks? The answer is yes for polls that meet certain standards. Such polls:
              · ask a big-enough section of the country's population
              · ask a random selection of the population av befolkningen (where different ages are asked, and people with different backgrounds and from different living conditions)
              · ask straight (not biased) questions
              · get people to answer honestly (and not what they think their parents, friends, or neighbours want them to answer)
              · ask through the means that best reflects what people think (in real life or via internet or mobil/ cell phone or in a written questionnaire).
